Virtual After School Programs

The Eureka! Virtual After School Programs

Our After School Program is designed for kids who love to play games! We currently provide two programs:

1) Strategy and Euro-style games. Using an online platform along with videochat, our instructors teach and facilitate gameplay while facilitating an environment where kids interact with each other over board games in a fun environment.

2) Dungeons & Dragons. Using A combination of paper and pencil, imagination, and videochat, our game leader, known as a "Dungeon Master" in D&D,  will both teach the mechanics of this much loved role-playing game as well as guide participants on a journey where everyone decision they make shapes the gameworld around them.

Both programs are open to gamers aged 10 to 15 years old. When signups are active, the above links will take you to the sign up page; when signups are closed, the links will not work.

Since we can't meet in person, we've taken the gaming experience (pictured below) online!

Research has consistently shown that this type of play provides direct benefits in both academic achievement as well as in enhancing social skills. We ask that mics remain unmuted the whole time to maximize player discussion and interaction!

Euro-style Games:

Euro-style games, such as Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne, or Ticket to Ride, are not chance-based, such as Monopoly or Risk, but require strategic thinking and a probabilistic assessment of different options. More information about Euro-style games can be found on our blog, which you can find here.

Abstract Strategy Games

Social Deduction Games

Social deduction games are games of wit. In general, they utilize mechanics such is bluffing, bidding, clue giving, perception and deception. In this category you will find games like The Resistance, Sherriff of Nottingham, Coup, Werewolf, and many party-style games.

Dungeons and Dragons (Role Playing Games):

Role playing games are games where players assume the role of a character in a fictional setting. Players take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative, either through literal acting, or through a process of structured decision-making regarding character development. Dungeons and Dragons is the most well known and popular role playing game. Players build characters with varied strengths and weaknesses, and embark on an adventure that is as unlimited as their imagination.

Eureka! game instructors teach a wide variety of games at game nights, Eureka! vacation programs, and as game leaders at Eureka!’s “On The Spot” events for private functions. They know games, love teaching them, and know how to work with gamers at all levels of expertise.

In this program, participants will learn and master many different games as well as having the opportunity make meaningful friendships with kids who also love what they love. This is a perfect way to spend afternoons for anyone who loves games and wants to get better at them!
