A different take on the traditional sliding panel boxes we know so well from Japan. This one is designed and made in China. There are sliding movements involved. But they are not the usual outside panels that you expect.
All four walls of the puzzle have movement rather than just on the end many traditional Japanese puzzle boxes. And because a lot of the movements are actually internal to the puzzle and don’t show externally it makes it more difficult to find the correct combination.
We’ve given this one a higher difficulty rating than the standard 4 Sun 10 Step Japanese puzzle box.
There are 9 Steps in the solution so this one will really press all your buttons!
This is a pretty little box with a laser engraved botanical design of Lotus flowers and Chrysanthemums on top.
The box is made to a budget being laser cut from plywood with a floral pattern engraved on the top. It’s nicely stained to a slightly darker colour and packaged in a solid white box with a solution to both open and close the puzzle box inside. You may need this if you want to open it and put a small gift inside for someone.
We’ve checked the boxes and the parts seem to slide quite well so don’t discard this one just because it’s not the same fine woodworking as a Japanese puzzle box. The process of solving this puzzle is very enjoyable.
