This is a beautiful Burlwood chest with 3 drawers.  The chests are handcrafted in Morocco from Thuya wood, a highly aromatic burl wood found only in the mountainous regions of northern Africa. They measure about 5.5" x 2.5" x 4 3/8"high.  The inner drawers are rough finished only which is typical of the Moroccan craftsmen who focus attention on the outer finish and beauty of the box..

The Thuya wood is primarily from the roots. It is very hard wood and difficult to work with. Though the external surfaces are buffed to an impressive smooth high gloss, there are some naturally occurring knotholes, nicks, and other small imperfections in the wood which become a part of each box's character.   These boxes are rare and difficult to acquire and are highly collectable.  Every one will be different as the burl pattern is unique to each box.
